Why Should All Seminary Students Consider a Call to Missions?

Why should all seminary students consider a call to missions?

You know, when it comes to students’ calling, I think that any man who believes he is called to gospel ministry needs to seriously consider the call to missions. Now, that doesn't mean that everyone should go overseas. It doesn't mean that everyone has the requisite gifts and graces to serve in a pioneer environment, in a frontier work.

But they all need to consider that. I think if someone comes to seminary and they're holding back, they're unwilling to do something hard as an ambassador of Jesus Christ, then they have no business being a pastor at all. To be ordained for the gospel ministry is to be in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. And when you are in service to someone, it's not up to you where you are sent. It's not up to you what job you are assigned to.

And so, while of course we need to discern and help men and women understand where the Lord might have them to go, in principle, we all need to be willing to go and to die in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ and for the furtherance of His kingdom.
