What Concerns You About Missions Today?

What concerns you about missions today?

What concerns me most in missions today? When we talk about academics, the fear is always liberalism—that men are going to stray from the clear teaching of the Word because it contradicts their culture or their personal preference, and so on and so forth. In missions, the greatest fear for me in ministry is always pragmatism. Doing that which is right in our own eyes, thinking that somehow we can carry out a spiritual labor carnally.

What we have to realize is that we're at war, and every one of our enemies—the smallest part of any of our enemies—can defeat us. Whether it's the flesh, whether it's the evil of men, the political powers, whether it's the demonic, all of it is too great for us. All of it. And so we must learn that it is not by eloquence, it is not by power, it is not even by organization, but by the Spirit of God. And so we need to be men of prayer. We need to be men of the Word. And we need to avoid pragmatism like the sound theologian avoids liberalism.
