What Is the Role of Prayer in Church Planting?

If God is sovereign, if God is actually orchestrating all things according to the counsel of His will, then why would we not pray in our churches? Prayer is simply a humble recognition of our dependence on the Lord. And it can play out in a couple different ways in a new church, a church plant environment.

One is just through individual devotion to the Lord— in regular devotions, regular intercession, praying for neighbors and evangelistic opportunities in the neighborhood. And another one is corporate prayer. So I always encourage new churches to meet, particularly to bring prayer requests to the Lord and to share family needs and concerns in prayer. Apart from the main teaching gathering of the church, it's just another way for the church to get together, build community, and honor the Lord by expressing their dependence on Him.
